HCCMHB Responds to Hurricane Katrina Disaster
More than 30 volunteers trained in responding to behavioral health needs during a disaster have been working with the Red Cross to assist evacuees who have already arrived in our area. These volunteers and more stand ready to assist additional families expected to arrive in our area.
In order to provide the most effective and productive assistance to evacuees in our area, the HCCMHB is committed to coordinating professional efforts with the American Red Cross and other county-based agencies. The Red Cross has been working with the Mental Health Access Point (MHAP) to ensure delivery of the most timely and appropriate services for evacuees needing behavioral health assistance.
In addition, Hamilton County is conducting a fund raising effort to assist victims in the Southern states. The Red Cross is assisting Hamilton County in collecting and tracking these donations.
